“OPEN” by RHYE

Andy,

I recently discovered Rhye while perusing the internet. I was immediately taken aback by how beautiful and smooth the music is that comes from this mysterious duo. They kept their identities secret when the Open EP was first released earlier this year. When I first heard the song “Open” I was convinced Sade had become bffs with The xx and this was the result. The duo is actually Robin Hannibal of Hannibal/Owusu with vocalist Mike Milosh. You should check out the EP, the entire thing is lovely.

Again, thanks Annie. I feel like your tumblr has been temporarily dedicated to me today. This was the look on my face when drunk-advice-lady told me I was doing “something SERIOUSLY wrong.”

I'm Going Banannies!: The Upper East Side Is A Weird Place To Be

I love Annie so much for taking the time to write about this absolutely hilarious experience of ours. Thanks to this encounter I now know where to meet the men in my neighborhood (apparently at AA Meetings on 84th and Park). And have learned that since I’m not engaged yet I’m doing something “SERIOUSLY wrong.”

So we are at a bodega around 2:00pm buying drinks to take to the park last weekend and this middle-aged woman, wearing sunglasses, a baseball cap, and smeared lipstick, stops me and my friend.

Immature people falling in love destroy each other’s freedom, create a bondage, make a prison. Mature persons in love help each other to be free; they help each other to destroy all sorts of bondages. And when love flows with freedom there is beauty. When love flows with dependence there is ugliness.

A mature person does not fall in love, he or she rises in love. Only immature people fall; they stumble and fall down in love. Somehow they were managing and standing. Now they cannot manage and they cannot stand. They were always ready to fall on the ground and to creep. They don’t have the backbone, the spine; they don’t have the integrity to stand alone.

A mature person has the integrity to stand alone. And when a mature person gives love, he or she gives without any strings attached to it. When two mature persons are in love, one of the great paradoxes of life happens, one of the most beautiful phenomena: they are together and yet tremendously alone. They are together so much that they are almost one. Two mature persons in love help each other to become more free. There is no politics involved, no diplomacy, no effort to dominate. Only freedom and love.

You are true even in my wandering.

Downton Abbey is tied with Mad Men for my all time favourite show. So so so so so good. Every girl needs a Matthew Crawley.
